Starting a project

A new board
A product exists as a requirement, a mechanical concept or an older unit that needs replacing. We start with the requirements review and take the first revision through to working prototypes.

An existing board
A board in production with a known weakness: a section that runs hot, an interface that fails in some installations, a cost problem. We look at that section, not the whole design.
- 03
An obsolete component
A supplier discontinues a part and the board becomes unbuildable. The scope is defined by the part, and the result is either a manufacturable board or it is not.

Firmware that has to move
An MCU is at its limit or no longer available. The first step is reproducing the existing behaviour exactly, before anything is improved.
